In 1968, on the basis of the Department of General and Mining Electrical Engineering, the Department of Power Supply of Industrial Enterprises (Head of the Department R.V. Kozlov) and the Department of Theoretical Foundations of Electrical Engineering (Head of the Department Associate Professor, Ph.D. A .E. Yakovlev).
At the beginning of its formation, the department was called “Mining Mechanics”. The first head of the department was Associate Professor, Ph.D. I.K. Khrustalev (1956 – 1957). In the period 1957-1960. Department of “Mining mechanics” was headed by Assoc., Ph.D. O.V. Khoroshev.
From 1960 to 1980 the department “Mining mechanics” was headed by B.G. Klimov. In 1980 B.G. Klimov defended his dissertation for the degree of Doctor of Technical Sciences at the Moscow Mining Institute. In the same year, the Department of Mining Mechanics was merged with the Department of Power Supply of Industrial Enterprises. After the merger, the department became known as “Mining Electromechanics”.
As for the department “Power supply of industrial enterprises”, which since 1975 was headed by associate professor P.P. Kamensky, then in 1980 it was merged with the Mining Mechanics Department (head of the department B.G. Klimov). After the merger, the department became known as “Mining Electromechanics” and headed it

The scientific schools of scientists made a great contribution to the solution of urgent scientific and technical problems of the Kazakhstani industry and the training of scientific and pedagogical personnel: B.G. Klimova, Yu.P. Galishnikova, A.N. Shpiganovich, Yu.A. Nikolaeva, Zh.Zh. Imanov.
The department closely cooperated with the Moscow, Sverdlovsk and Dnepropetrovsk mining institutes, the All-Union Institute of Mining Mechanics. MM. Fedorov, Perm, Donetsk Polytechnic and Kryvyi Rih Mining and Metallurgical Institutes. New samples of elements of mine stationary installations and electrical equipment were introduced into production.

The author of well-known textbooks and reference books on the power supply of mining enterprises Anatoly Efimovich Yakovlev was one of the first teachers of electrical disciplines at the Karaganda Mining Institute. Since 1954 he has worked and about. assistant professor, then assistant professor and at the same time chief engineer of the Karagandagiproshakht Institute. From September 1968 to September 1979 he headed the department “Theoretical Foundations of Electrical Engineering”.
Since 1979, the Department of TOE was headed by Professor, Doctor of Technical Sciences. Yu.P. Galishnikov, who created a scientific school in the study of gradual short circuits in turbogenerators and the development of MHD alternating current generators. During this period, a significant contribution to the modernization of the department using the most advanced methods of teaching electrical disciplines was made by graduates of the capital’s universities Kelmagambetova P.M., Karmanov S.G., Bokizhanov G.I., Imanov Zh.Zh.
In 1981, the department was reorganized and named “Electrical Engineering”. With the appointment of Yu.P. Galishnikov, the rector of the Pavlodar Industrial Institute, the department of “Electrical Engineering” was headed by her graduate in 1971, associate professor, Ph.D. V.S. Moiseev (1984-1986), associate professor, Ph.D. A.F. Fazylov (1989-1997), associate professor, Ph.D. E.G. Nadirov is one of the first teachers of the Karaganda Mining Institute. In 1975-1980. the department “Power supply of industrial enterprises” was headed by associate professor P.P. Kamensky.
In 1997, due to a decrease in the teaching load, the departments of “Electrical Supply” and “Electrical Engineering” were merged. Associate Professor, Ph.D. B.A. Zhautikov. In the future, the heads of the department were its graduates of different years G.G. Tatkeeva, A.D. Mekhtiev, A.V. Taranov, E.G. Neshin.
In 1988, after the departure of Professor B.G. Klimov outside the republic, the department of “Mining Electromechanics” was headed by Professor, Doctor of Technical Sciences. A.N. Shpiganovich, on whose initiative the specialty “Power Supply” was opened and in 1991 the name of the department was changed to “Power Supply”. In 1994-1997. the department was headed by her graduate – associate professor, Ph.D. M.L. Karakulin.

The main task of the departments in the first period of work was to select and rally young enthusiastic specialists, mainly from among the graduates of the department. Gifted students were involved in scientific work from the student’s bench. After graduating from high school, they underwent an internship at the institute, entered graduate school, and worked as teachers of the department. Professors T.N. Maslovskaya. E.I. With the opening of the specialty “Heat power engineering”, the department changed its name to “Energy” since 2008, and since 2015 it has been called “Energy Systems”. In total, since 1959, the department has trained more than 4,000 mining electrical and mechanical engineers, electrical and mining electrical engineers, bachelors and masters.
The department is an educational and scientific structural subdivision of NJSC “Karaganda Technical University named after Abalkas Saginov”, carrying out educational, methodological and research work. It also conducts educational work among students, training of scientific and pedagogical personnel and improving their qualifications.

The department trains specialists in the field of energy: bachelors and masters – in the direction of “Engineering and Engineering” and the group of educational programs “Electrical Engineering and Energy”.
The goals of the Department of Energy Systems are to provide a strong basic training in the principles and methods of design, operation and management in the field of electric power industry. To prepare graduates for successful careers in the field and objects of the electric power industry, by teaching disciplines that will provide the fundamental knowledge and practical skills needed in a competitive environment.
The department has created all the necessary conditions in which the best engineering talents can develop, capable of ensuring the rise of the economy and energy, stability, security and prosperity of sovereign Kazakhstan. What we are doing today at the department makes it possible to bring our education closer to the international requirements of developed countries.
