BACHELORE COURSE
The students, who have completed the corresponding educational program of higher education, are awarded a bachelor’s degree in the corresponding field (heat power engineering or electric power engineering).
Training is provided in the full-time mode of training, as well as the full-time mode of training on the basis of vocational education and the full-time mode of training on the basis of higher education.
Training is provided, according to a state order, as well as on a paid basis in Russian and state languages, using a credit technology.
Teachers of other departments of the University are involved in the educational process, related to the cycles of General Educational Disciplines and Basic Disciplines. Computer and multimedia classrooms are used. Lecture halls and laboratories of the Department are equipped with multimedia equipment (interactive whiteboards, projection TV set, projection apparatus and screens) for giving laboratory and practical classes. The training is performed, by means of unique equipment, that simulates a power system, using the application software package “LabView”, “Electronic WORKBENCH” and “ANSYS”.
A computer practice is realized in the computer classrooms of the Department; after the second-year students get a vocational profession, a job placement is carried out at the industrial enterprises of the region, including the enterprises: Power Plant-1, Power Plant-3, LLP “Karaganda-Zharyk”. Practice programs have been developed for organizing and carrying out practices. The programs meet the requirements of the State Compulsory Educational Standards. Bases of practices are 4 enterprises and organizations (JSC “Karaganda Electrical Equipment Plant”, LLP “KEGOC”, LLP “Karaganda-Zharyk”, LLP “Promstroyenergo”). Each group has an assigned teacher to carry out the practice. After having ended the practice, the students submit diaries and reports, which are defended in front of the Commission of the teaching staff of the Department.
An annual graduate fair is held. The Association of Graduates of the Department also deals with employment issues. Every year, more than 95% of the students are employed to work, according to their specialties. Graduates are distributed and work in such organizations as: JSC “KEGOC”, “Kazakhmys Corporation”, JSC “Arcelor Mittal Temirtau”, LLP “KRAK”, JSC “KazMunayGas”, “Karema”, JSC “KZELTO”, “Shubarkol Komir”, LLP “Karaganda Zharyk”, LLP “Kazakhmys Corporation”.
There are comments of the high quality of graduates training of the Department from foreign companies: Coal Division of “Arcelor Mittal Temirtau”, “Festo”, “Baker Hughes”, “Efes-Karaganda”, “Festo-Almaty”, enterprises of “Engizu”, “Kazpromavtomatika”, “Munai Gas Engineering”, “Gartex”, “KZELTO”, LLP “Karaganda Zharyk” and others.
Cost of training in 2021:
- Complete full-time mode of training – 2 600 000 tenge
- Reduced full-time mode of training (on a college base) – 1,950,000 tenge
- Full-time mode of training on the higher education basis – 1,300,000 tenge
6B07109 “Electric power engineering”
Teaching the students under the educational program “Power Engineering” is carried out together with the Department of Manufacturing Processes Automation.

Teaching the bachelor’s degree students under the educational program 6B07109 “Electric power engineering” is carried out in the Kazakh and Russian languages on the basis of the license No. KZ39LAA00018511, dated 03.08.20.
Field of professional activity
The field of professional activity of graduates is the field of science and technology, which includes a set of technologies, tools, methods and methods of human activity aimed at creating conditions for production, transmission, distribution and consumption of electricity.
Objects of professional activity
The objects of professional activity of graduates are enterprises for the production, transmission, distribution and consumption of electricity.
Nature of professional activity
The nature of professional activity of graduates in the specialty 5B07109 “Electric power engineering” is:
- electric power stations and substations;
- electrical systems and networks;
- relay protection and automation of electric power systems;
- electric power supply of the enterprises of various branches of industry, electrification and automation of agricultural production;
- non-traditional and renewable energy sources;
- electrical engineering, electrical insulation and cable engineering;
- electrical installations and systems,
- lighting and light sources,
- electric drive and automation of technological complexes.
After the 3rd year, the students receive the vocational profession “Electrician for servicing stations and substations”.
6В07108 ”Heat power engineering”

Teaching the bachelor’s degree students under the educational program 6B07108 “Heat Power Engineering” is carried out in the Kazakh and Russian languages on the basis of the license No. KZ39LAA00018511, dated 03.08.20.
Field of professional activity
The field of professional activity is heat power engineering as an integral part of technology, which includes a set of tools, methods and methods of human activity created for generating and applying heat, managing its flows and converting various types of energy into heat.
Objects of professional activity
The objects of professional activity of graduates are heating technological installations for the production, distribution and use of heat energy, power supply systems of industrial enterprises, power installations.
Nature of professional activity
The nature of professional activity of the bachelor in the specialty 5B07108 “Heat power Engineering” is the following systems:
- power plants;
- industrial and heating boilers;
- heat technologies;
- centralized and autonomous energy saving of industrial enterprises and organizations;
- energy carriers production and distribution;
- cogeneration-based district heating and heat networks;
- preparation of water and fuel;
- automated control of the heat power engineering and heat technology facilities;
- methods and tools of modeling and optimizing heat power and heat technology facilities, electrical machines and devices.
MASTER’S DEGREE PROGRAM
The students who have completed the corresponding educational programs of the postgraduate professional education are awarded a Master of Engineering Sciences in the corresponding field (heat power engineering or electric power engineering).
The training is provided, according to the state order, as well as on a paid basis only in the full-time mode of training, in Russian and state languages, using the credit technology.
At the moment, teaching under the master’s degree program is carried out in two fields:
- profession-oriented field;
- educational research field.
The period of training for the profession-oriented field is 1.5 and 1 years; for educational research field is 2 years.
The master’s degree students are taught on the basis of an individual curriculum, which is drawn up under the guidance of a scientific supervisor who has a doctor’s degree or PhD, during entire period of training. All master’s degree students, who study, as per the state order have completed research internships at the Moscow State University of Economics (Moscow), the Omsk State Technical University (Omsk), the Tomsk State University (Tomsk), Louisiana Technical University, and St. Petersburg Technical University.
Places of teaching practice are the Department of Manufacturing Processes Automation and “Energy systems”; the places of the job placement are specialized firms, regardless of their forms of ownership.
Admission to the master’s degree program is carried out on a competitive basis, according to the results of passing two exams (a foreign language and a special discipline).
The master’s degree students are taught on the basis of the individual curriculum, which is drawn up under the guidance of the scientific supervisor who has a doctor’s degree or PhD, during entire period of training.
Training is carried out, according to a point-rating system, which includes 2 current attestations, midterm examination and the final test.
The job placement is carried out in accordance with the curriculum and on the basis of contracts concluded by KTU with JSC “Kazchermetavtomatika”, Coal Division of JSC “ArcelorMittal Temirtau”, LLP “Kazpromavtomatika”, LLP “Elat”, LLP “Karaganda Power Center”, LLP KPF “Ergonomics”.
- The cost of training for the entire period of training is 930,000 tenge (2 years of training).
- The cost of training for the entire period of training is 697 5000 tenge (1.5 years of training).
- The cost of training for the entire period of training is 465,000 tenge (1 year of training).

The faculty of the department annually participates in competitions for grant funding. The following faculty members are the heads of grants from the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan:
Neshina E.G. – Head of grant financing on the topic “Development of an intelligent fiber-optic monitoring system for the geotechnical condition of quarries and sections” for the period 2022-2024.;
Taranov A.V. – head of grant financing on the topic “Creation of a pilot industrial model of an innovative passenger pneumatic lift for buildings and structures” for the period 2023-2025;
Brazhanova D.K. – head of financing for young scientists dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the University on the topic: “Development of a functional model for intelligent energy management of a building based on wireless sensor and actuator networks”;
Baidusenov G.N. – head of the grant for financing young scientists under the Zhas Galim project on the topic: “Improving the energy efficiency and reliability of district heating based on optimization of thermal insulation parameters.”
The involvement of practical teachers in the educational process increases the level of pragmatic orientation of teaching a number of disciplines. Therefore, 13 part-timers from production take part in teaching special subjects (Davydov I.N. – Karaganda Zharyk LLP, a leading engineer of the substation service; Kucherenko A.V. – Karaganda Zhylu TPP-3 LLP, engineer of the 1st category of ATP; Osipova O.L. – Specialist of the software development group; Yurchishin R.Yu. – Mining and Ore Technologies LLP, leading power engineer, D.A. Dauylbaev, KEGOC JSC.
The department has 11 educational and research laboratories, including 2 computer classrooms equipped with modern computer technology for laboratory work, term papers and graduation projects. The training is performed on unique equipment that simulates an energy system using LabVIEW, Electronic WORKBENCH, ANSYS and ETAR control systems.
