Round table “Anti-Nuclear initiatives of Kazakhstan”


September 2, 2016 on the basis of Karaganda state technical University at 15.00 was held a round table “Anti-Nuclear initiatives of Kazakhstan”, dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the closure of the Semipalatinsk nuclear polygon.

At the roundtable, presentations were made by: M. H. Khamiev, Chairman of the Karaganda branch of the movement “Nevada-Semipalatinsk”; J. B. Duda, guard major-General, participant of liquidation of consequences of the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant; V. M. Minin, member of the Union of journalists of Kazakhstan, acting Chairman of the Karaganda regional Union of veterans of Chernobyl-Semipalatinsk, the participant of liquidation of consequences of the Chernobyl accident and the testing of nuclear devices at the Semipalatinsk nuclear polygon September 2, 1986, an activist of the international movement “Nevada-Semipalatinsk”; Zh. B. Kopbayev, Colonel of medical service, the participant of liquidation of consequences of the Chernobyl accident, he served on the Semipalatinsk nuclear testing ground; K. M. Baekenov, the participant of liquidation of consequences of Chernobyl accident, and will also participate I. K. Naumenko, the participant of liquidation of consequences of the Chernobyl accident, member of the Board; I. G. Burmistrov, the Chairman of the audit Committee of the NGO “Karaganda regional Union of veterans of Chernobyl-Semipalatinsk”, the participant of liquidation of consequences of the Chernobyl accident, conscript at the Semipalatinsk nuclear polygon; faculty and students of the University.

The purpose of the roundtable was to exchange experiences on the further development of tools and mechanisms for the implementation of the policy of Kazakhstan to improve nuclear safety.

Following the discussion of reports and speeches participants of the round table “anti-Nuclear initiatives of Kazakhstan”, dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the closure of the Semipalatinsk nuclear polygon was taken following recommendations and suggestions:

  1. To give the Semipalatinsk nuclear polygon world heritage status. To create the SNP world Museum for posterity the world of the Commonwealth.
  2. To pay currently due attention to the Institute for the study of radioecological situation in the settlements in the Semipalatinsk region.
