INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS WELCOME DAY: SAGINOV TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY BRINGS INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS TOGETHER

On October 7, Saginov Technical University hosted International Students Welcome Day. The event brought together students from different countries, giving them an opportunity to learn more about the University, adapt more easily to their new environment, and receive direct answers to their questions.

The event was attended by the University leadership, faculty deans, and representatives of departments working with international students. Participants received information about the academic process, international programs, academic mobility, digital services, student life, as well as visa and migration-related matters.

This year, International Students Welcome Day was particularly significant. In the 2026–2027 academic year, more than 170 international students were newly admitted to Saginov Technical University. Of these, 142 enrolled as first-year students, while another 30 are studying at the preparatory department, which opened at the University for the first time this year.

The newly admitted first-year students represent 13 countries. The largest groups come from Turkmenistan, the Russian Federation, and Uzbekistan. Students from China and Mongolia also make up a significant share of those enrolled in the preparatory department.

Today, the University has a total of 272 international students. The international students enrolled in the University’s core academic programs represent 16 countries: the Russian Federation, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Germany, China, Ukraine, Kyrgyzstan, Palestine, Armenia, Tajikistan, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Mongolia, and Belarus.

This academic year, the University’s international student community has also expanded to include students from countries not previously represented at Saginov Technical University. Citizens of Indonesia and Bangladesh enrolled at the University for the first time through the state scholarship program.

In the 2026–2027 academic year, 10 international students were admitted to the University under the state scholarship program of the Republic of Kazakhstan for foreign citizens. Eight are pursuing bachelor’s degrees, while two are enrolled in master’s programs. The scholarship recipients come from Palestine, the Russian Federation, Uzbekistan, Indonesia, and Bangladesh.

The growing number of international students is also supported by the University’s international student recruitment and outreach activities. During the past academic year, as part of the Study in Kazakhstan initiative, representatives of Saginov Technical University held in-person meetings with prospective students in India, China, Mongolia, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan.

Prospective students were introduced to opportunities for pursuing higher education in Kazakhstan, as well as to the University’s engineering and technical degree programs. At the same time, the University maintains ongoing communication with prospective international students through international education platforms and digital communication channels.

These efforts enable the University to reach new international education markets and further expand the geographical diversity of its international student community.

During International Students Welcome Day, particular attention was paid to practical issues that international students may face during their first months in Kazakhstan.

The event was attended by Didar Ibragimovich Alkhamin, Senior Inspector of the Migration Service Department of the Karaganda Region Police Department and Police Captain. He explained the rules governing the stay of foreign citizens in the Republic of Kazakhstan, key migration requirements, registration procedures, and important aspects of personal safety.

In addition, international students received free SIM cards as part of the SafeTravel.kz project. The initiative helps students who have recently arrived in Kazakhstan stay connected and access essential online services from their first days in the country. The starter package includes 1 GB of mobile data.

The meeting was held in an open-dialogue format. Students had the opportunity to address their questions directly to the University leadership and relevant specialists and receive practical guidance.

The cultural part of the program helped young people from different countries get to know one another, establish new connections, and adapt more quickly to their new environment.

Admitting an international student to a university is only the first stage of international engagement. It is equally important to help students adapt to a new country, city, and university environment and to ensure that they receive the information and support they need in a timely manner.

International Students Welcome Day brings these efforts together in one format and is aimed at strengthening open communication between international students and the University.

The growing number of international students, the expanding geographical diversity of the student community, and the development of engagement with prospective students abroad are strengthening Saginov Technical University’s position in the international education landscape.

The University not only promotes Kazakhstan’s engineering and technical education abroad but also prioritizes the creation of a supportive academic and student environment for every international student who chooses Kazakhstan as a destination for higher education.
