First interuniversity multilingualism competition “KSTU Speller 2018” was held at KSTU


On 26 April 2018, KSTU hosted the first Interuniversity competition in English language “KSTU Speller 2018” for students of non-linguistic specialties. The competition held for the first time was timed to coincide with the 10th anniversary of Sh. Kudaiberdiyev Language Trinity Centre and the 65th anniversary of the University.

More than 40 students of non-linguistic specialties of 1-3 courses of full-time department of Karaganda universities took part in the competition. This number included the students of KSTU, E.A. Buketov KSU, Karaganda State Medical University, Barimbek Beissenov Karaganda Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, KEU Kazpotrebsoyuz and “Bolashak” Academy.

The main purpose of the competition was to increase the interest of students to study three languages – Kazakh, Russian, English, popularization of the project “Trinity of languages”.

The organizer of the competition was Sh. Kudaiberdiyev Trinity of languages Center of Karaganda State Technical University.

The competition was held in two stages, during which the knowledge of three languages – Kazakh, Russian, English was checked. In the first round, students had to make a written translation of words between the three languages. According to the results of the first round, 10 finalists were selected. The tasks of the second stage included spelling (pronunciation of words in the letters of the English alphabet), interpretation of the English word into Russian and Kazakh languages.

The jury consisting of the staff of “Trinity of languages” Centre determined the winners by the highest number of points:

I place – Urazaev Alibi Gabitovich, specialty “World Economy”, KEU Kazpotrebsoyuz.

II place – Ashirbekov Kanagat Samarovich, specialty “Mining”, Karaganda State Technical University.

III place was shared by Sovetova Kymbat Kairatovna, specialty “Accounting and audit” KEU Kazpotrebsoyuz and Aigali Guldariga Nuryldakyzy, specialty “Radio engineering, electronics and telecommunications” of KSTU.

All participants received certificates and the winners received cash prizes and certificates.

At the end of the competition, the participants had an excursion to the Museum of the First President, the Hi-Tech zone of the University, the exhibition of innovative projects of KSTU, where they got acquainted with the infrastructure of the University, the activities of world-class laboratories, training innovation centers. A pleasant surprise for the participants was the performance of a group of young musicians “MAESTASSUN”, who performed a popular song on guitar and violin.

We remind you that Shakarim Kudaiberdiyev “Trinity of languages” Centre of KSTU was opened in March 2008.

“Trinity of languages” Centre conducts courses of Kazakh, English, Russian languages for employees and students of the University. The center is engaged in translation of scientific and technical literature from Russian into English and Kazakh, consecutive interpretation into English at events with representatives of the UN Economic Commission, ASIIN Accreditation Agency, partners of the University from France, Germany, the Czech Republic, the USA. The Centre also organizes events within the framework of trilingualism policy for students of Karaganda universities.
