Conditions for admission to the military department


Military department


Students are selected for training at the military department on the basis of the competition annually from August 1 to August 20 of the selection year in accordance with the recruitment plan approved by the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The recruitment plan is sent to the heads of military departments before April 1 of the selection year.

Reception of documents by the military department ends 10 working days before the start of the selection committee.

Students under the age of 24 years old for the year of the competition are allowed to participate in the competition.

The competition for selecting students for training at the military department is carried out in four stages:

– the first stage – passing a medical examination in accordance with the Rules for conducting military medical examination and the Regulation on military medical examination bodies in the Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan, approved by order of the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated July 2, 2015 No. 373 (registered in the Register of State Registration of Normative Legal Acts No. 11846);

– the second stage – conducting professional psychological testing;

– the third stage – verification of physical fitness;

– the fourth stage – competitive selection, carried out in accordance with the calculation of the rating score, compiled and approved by the head of the university in agreement with the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The composition and terms of the selection committee are determined by order of the First Deputy Minister of Defense – Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The selection committee consists of an odd number of members (at least 5 people), which includes:

1) the chairman of the commission – the head of the military department;

2) Deputy Chairman of the Commission – an officer of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan, determined by the structural unit in charge of military education of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan;

3) a serviceman of the military police of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan;

4) responsible for the physical training and sports of the military unit (institution), to which the military department is assigned, and in their absence, the representative of the department of physical education and sports of the university;

5) a representative from among the teaching staff of the university (not a military department), determined by its head.

The representative of the military department of the university (without the right to vote) is appointed secretary of the commission.

Passing each stage of the competition is allowed once.

For training in the reserve officers training program, documents are accepted from first-year students (with 4-year training) and second-year students (with 5-year training). Students enrolled in the second year of college after graduation have the right to participate in the competitive selection for training under the reserve officer’s program on a common basis after the end of the school year at the university.

Military training ends with a training camp (professional practice) a year before graduation from a university.

Military training under the program of reserve officers is carried out on a free and paid basis. The cost of training on a paid basis does not exceed the cost of training for the state educational order.

Students of a university having military departments that have passed the conditions of the competition are allowed to study on a free basis by state order, and for training on a paid basis, students who also pass the conditions of the competition recommended by the commission in accordance with the number of places allocated to the military department.

For tuition on a fee basis, the head of the university, in agreement with the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan, can attract students from other universities that do not have military departments, regardless of ownership and subordination.

The cost of training on a paid basis is 221,000 tenge per year.
