Applications are now open for China’s international scholarship programs in the field of nuclear energy and nuclear technology. These programs are supported by the Ministry of Education of China, the China Atomic Energy Authority, and leading universities across the country. They aim is to train highly qualified specialists to promote international cooperation in the peaceful use of nuclear energy.
Atomic Energy Scholarship (AES)
During the second phase of the program (2023–2027), studies are conducted at 13 leading Chinese universities, with up to 100 full scholarships awarded annually.
Levels of study:
- Master’s degree – 3 years
- PhD – 4 years
Applications must be submitted online by May 31.
Fields covered by the program:
- Nuclear energy and engineering
- Operation of nuclear power plants
- Nuclear safety and modeling
- Reactor physics
- Radiation monitoring and protection technologies
- Nuclear fuel cycle and other areas of nuclear technology
The scholarship includes:
- Full tuition coverage
- Accommodation in university dormitories or housing allowance
- Monthly stipend: 3,000 CNY for master’s students, 3,500 CNY for PhD students
- Medical insurance (800 CNY per year per person)
The program is conducted in English. Applicants are required to provide proof of English proficiency (TOEFL ≥ 90 or IELTS ≥ 6.0). Universities also provide free Chinese language and culture courses to help students adapt to life and study in China.

TUNEM International Master’s Program (Tsinghua University)
Applications are now open for the TUNEM International Master’s Program in Nuclear Engineering and Management, offered by Tsinghua University, one of China’s leading universities.
Program Highlights:
- Duration: 2 years
- Scholarships: Approximately 30 awarded annually
- Language of instruction: English
- Eligibility Requirements: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in nuclear engineering, management, or related fields
- Work experience in nuclear engineering is an advantage
- Proof of English proficiency
- Candidates with recommendation from CNNC (China National Nuclear Corporation) have priority consideration.

Individual applicants for TUNEM are exempt from the 800 CNY registration fee.
