HELD FOR THE LAST 4,5 YEARS
(February, 2008 – June, 2012)

1. INNOVATIVE MODELS OF DEVELOPMENT OF KSTU

 

1.1. The unique models created at the University and implemented in all fields of activity successfully have been the basis of the dynamic development of the University:
1.1.1. The model of governing the University includes integrated programs of development of KSTU for each year, decisions of the Academic Council, the strategically important orders, weekly plans and reports of heads of subdivisions, weekly results of analyses of classes and curators’hours attendance, the analysis of scientific and methodological articles.

1.1.2. The model of patriotic education as an example of the First Pres-dent of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev is an effective system that performs patriotic education in a complex way. It takes into consideration the variety of forms and techniques developed by modern pedagogics and practice of social and political activities of a sovereign state for the whole period of studying students of the University, Technological college and  Technical lyceum. In 2010 in accordance with the Ministry of Education and Science of Kazakhstan this model was given to 50 leading universities and several colleges of Kazakhstan as a set of information teaching materials including 19 books and 17 CDs.

1.1.3. The model of student self-governing is a new form of student organization of the University. It combines the resources of youth organizations and students’ trade unions in a single trade union “Zhas Orda.” This is a real Parliament of students, where everyone can express his own point of view, find a solution of his problems and take an active part in the life of the University.

1.1.4. The model of work with the parents is a new technology of educational interaction of the University with parents by means of e-mail server Zimbra. It allows to improve the process of a future specialist formation together.

1.1.5. The model of the Corporate University is the first innovative educational consortium in Kazakhstan, which gave a great impact to the development of educational, scientific and technical activities of the University. According to the dynamics of scientific research, innovative projects and a number of economic agreements increasing, KSTU occupies a leading position among the universities of Kazakhstan.

 

1.1.6. The model of e-University is the Center of e-education technologies after the First President of RK (now the Institute of e-learning technologies). It provides the performance and the development of basic web-portals: an educational portal of distance technical teaching, educational resource center platform including more than 6500 e-learning resources (case studies course, video lectures, slide lectures and electronic textbooks).

The total cost of special equipment acquired for the organization of appropriate infrastructure amounted to 75 million tenge.

1.1.7. Model of technical and vocational education is an educational and methodological, scientific and productive complex of technical and vocational education, on the basis of which the principle of continuity of education emphasizing the priority “Education during the whole life” designated in the State program of the development of education in Kazakhstan for the years of 2011-2020 has been realized in practice.

1.1.8. The model of military-technical education, which combines powerful scientific and technical potential of the University and material, professional base of the best in the country military department. The idea of ​​creating the model was supported by the Ministry of Defense of RK. Amendments to the Law of RK “On military duty and military service” provides a legal base for the creation of military-technical faculty at the University.

 

2. THE CORPORATE UNIVERSITY IS THE MAJOR FACTOR

OF REALIZATION GP AIID

 

2.1. The Innovative and Educational Consortium “Corporate University” (CU) comprises 55 systemically important industrial enterprises of the region, including such industrial giants as JSC “ArselorMittalTemirtau”, Ltd.”Kazakhmys” “Corporation”, Ltd.”Bogatyr Komir”, JSC “Shubarkol Komir”, JSC “Sokolov- Sarbaisk ore-dressing union”, etc.

2.2. Only in 2011 more than 1600 students had a professional practice at the enterprises of the consortium, 583 of them – in the workplace, and 670 graduates were employed.

2.3. 520 workers of industrial enterprises of CU attended courses of advanced training at the Institute of Advanced Training at the University.

2.4. 41 branches of producing departments operate in the consortium.

2.5. The number of economic agreements has increased 15 times (from 77 million tenge in 2007 to 1150 million tenge in 2011).

2.6. The leading foreign companies – the members of the Corporate University – implement advanced equipment and technologies actively. KSTU teachers are trained by means of them.

2.7. The leading specialists of the enterprises participated actively in the design of professional competences creating 14 JI of a new generation, 168 model curricula and 39 teaching plans in specialities of higher and postgraduate education.

2.8. The enterprises of CU fund target staff training at the University (450-500 persons every year). In 2011 the number of students getting their education at cost of the enterprises amounted to 608 people, including 264 people getting their education at cost of JSC “Kazakhmys “”Corporation”.

2.9. Grants and scholarships for students and undergraduates have been given by the enterprises of CU: 10 grants – by JSC “Kazakhmys” “Corporation”, 20 scholarships – by JSC “ArselorMittalTemirtau”.

2.10. In October 2011 an industrial conference with the heads of enterprises of the Corporate University for discussion of staff training for SPFIID was held, the International Board of Trustees of KSTU was also organized. It consisted of more than 20 foreign members of leading universities representatives, famous political and social workers of Russia, EU, U.S., Canada and China, as well as multinational corporations and 18 first heads of enterprises of the Corporate University.

2.11. At 33 industries created by the Map of industrialization of Karaganda region 688 graduates of KSTU are employed. The need for specialists of enterprises, whose construction is still being planned, amounts to 1603 people. Contracts of specialists training are made with these enterprises.

3. BREAKTHROUGH PROJECTS OF KSTU IS THE BASIS

OF INNOVATIVE DEVELOPMENT OF CENTRAL KAZAKHSTAN

 

3.1. The integrated innovative scientific and technical complex of the University (ISTCU) is created. It includes 7 research institutes, 37 scientific research laboratories, 3 scientific and technical centers, the centre of innovation for youth, the laboratory of engineering and park of technologies Polytech”, which has 6 scientific research laboratories and 4 innovative enterprises with considerable experience of innovation.

As a part of this complex more than 56 innovative projects, mainly in the discipline “Technology and equipment of mining and metallurgical sector and related service industries”, 11 – in traditional and alternative energy and resource conservation, 22 – in technical and vocational education are being carried out.

3.2. The zone of high technologies «HI-TECH” has been created for a compact placement of ISTCU at KSTU. Its total area is 4000 m2.

3.3. The laboratory of engineering “The integrated development of mineral resources (LE), mainly in the discipline “New technologies of hydrocarbon and mining and metallurgical sectors and related service industries”, is opened at the University. It is being developed successfully.  LE has a wide range of modern appliances and equipment of the world’s leading manufacturers. It has already paid for the grant of  200 million tenge given by the state by means of research. The sum amounted to 450 million tenge. At the same time the research component of the educational process was strengthened.

The activity of the laboratory of engineering at KSTU is known as the best in the Republic according to the results of research work and its implementation into production. In 2011 the grant of MES of 12.5 million tenge was given for the development of the laboratory infrastructure.

3.4. The research institutes focused on innovation and engineering in the industry work successfully:

3.4.1. The research institute “Kazakhstan Institute of Welding, organized in October, 2010 by the decision of the Presidents of Kazakhstan and France and the French company «TOTAL» for the training specalists of international level and transfer of modern welding technologies in the oil industry and the industry. On 17 July, 2011 Kazakhstan Institute of Welding became a member of the influential club “The World Institute of Welding.”

3.4.2. The research institute of industrial ecology problems, created together with a member of the Corporate University – Ltd. «Absalut Esology for research in the field of unique technologies of industrial gases utilization and obtaining valuable chemicals. Experiments and industrial testing are being carried out. They are supposed to improve the ecological situation in the region. JSC “National Innovation Fund” granted 200 million tenge for the implementation of an innovative project.

3.4.3. The research institute KazMIRR provided scientific and technical support for the safe construction and reconstruction of more than 1000 civil and industrial buildings in Kazakhstan including 12 unique objects  in Astana (the complexes Khan Shatyr, Shabyt, Baiterek, the Palace of Independence, “Astana Arena” stadium, etc). The scientists and specialists of the research institute KazMIRR were ones of the first in Kazakhstan to start developing the regulatory framework of construction based on the Eurocodes. It will expand the practice of international projects and implementation of innovations in the construction industry. The institute successfully solved the problems of reconstruction and modernization of industrial buildings of JSC “ArcelorMittal Temirtau”, “Kazakhmys Corporation”, “Sokolov- Sarbaisk ore-dressing union ” and “Bogatyr Komir”. The volume of commercialization of the institute developments amounts to 300-350 million tenge / year. The research institute KazMIRR prepared a pilot project Passive House”– the first in Kazakhstan experience of implementing the global building trend Green Building- together with JSC “Ekostroyservice” and Karaganda machine-building consortium.

3.5. The scientists of KSTU participate actively in the implementation of regional programs according to “The road map of business 2020.” In particular, it is planned financing of the European Development Fund of $ 1.8 billion of dollars the U.S. project to extract technology and industrial utilization of coal bed methane. “The project “Methane Karaganda” presented at the V-th Astana Economic Forum on 22-24 May 2012. Its implementation will ensure the sustainable energy – and heat of the Central Kazakh-mill and create more than a thousand new jobs.

3.6. Prepared to implement the project “Technology for binding of the second fine grinding of industrial waste at the mill shock pulse.” In order to implement an innovative project of “National innovation fund” allocated 20 million tenge. Planned to organize miniproduction of certified binding of different brands for high-strength, durable concrete using mechanical activation and modifiers.

3.7. Successfully tested at the Government House was HYDRATED innovative project “Hydrodynamic heaters to create highly autonomous sources of heat for the remote from central heating systems for industrial and domestic objects. Economic efficiency of the use of the three plants was more than 5 million tenge per year. At the award ceremony of “Altyn Sapa” for the 2010 President of the Republic of Republic of Kazakhstan – the leader of the nation, N.A. Nazarbayev ordered to establish hydrodynamic heaters in the Ak-Orda.
At present we are working with the Ministry of Industry and Trade of RK, akimat of Karaganda region and industrial enterprises of widespread adoption of environmentally friendly and safe installations.

3.8. KSTU in open office of technology commercialization. By decision of the JSC “National Innovation Fund” five innovative projects at the University selected on a competitive basis for commercialization (professors Isagulova A.Z., Baydzhanova D.O., Demin V.F., MK, and associate professor Ibraeva Maksyutin L.A.).

3.9. One of the pupils of academician of NAS RK, AM Gazalieva Khrustalev DP – Director of Research, “New Materials”, in 2011published a monograph published by «Springer».

3.10. 15 November 2011. President Springer Koberg presented to Professor Peter KSTU Ibraeva MK, another of the disciples of academician of NAS RK, AM Gazalieva, a certificate, in which he recognized as the most-cited young scholars in Kazakhstan.

3.11. As a result of competition in the MES 2011 a grant in the amount of KZT 230 million for the implementation of three innovative projects KSTU. Together with the LLP «ABsalut Ekology» under the supervision of Prof. Borisenko A.VA. the project New technologies in the field of purification of process gases to create installations for purification of process gases, and energy-efficient technologies to produce materials with novel physical and chemical properties.

Professor G.S. Zhetesova developed an innovative project Multi-functional nanostructured coatings for facilities engineering,” which became one of the most promising scientific advances presented at the Forum of scientists of Kazakhstan in Almaty, in the sacred 20th anniversary of Independence of Kazakhstan.
One of priority directions of development of mining and metallurgical complex becomes involved in the processing of technogenic mineral formations (overburden and surrounding rocks, metallurgical slags, smelter, tailings processing plants, balanced and substandard ore, clinker). The decision of the relevant social-economic and environmental aims of innovative project lecturer Apachidi N. The planetary mill for processing of metal-containing industrial raw materials.”

 

4. INNOVATIVE DEVELOPMENT OF HUMAN CAPITAL IS:

 

4.1. The advanced information environment of the University is 2800 computers of the latest generation, 69 teaching computer classes united in the local network.
The Internet at speed up to 20 Mbit / s is at the disposal of all 12800 students, teaching staff and employees.

Limits on the amount of data downloaded is up to 300 MB per month for students and up to 750 MB – for teachers and employers.

4.2. There are three electronic reading halls for 164 workstations equipped with technology of wireless access to electronic resources of the University, leading electronic libraries of the world. Remote users have access to the resources of electronic library through the Internet by means of a Web-module. Full-text resources: DB books, electronic resources of teaching staff, syllabi, EMCTD, articles – more than 13000 documents are available.

4.3. The center of blue-collar occupations for training, retraining and advanced training of competent and competitive workers is created. Nowadays 63 existing companies applied for the need of more than 12000 specialists, mainly in technical disciplines. On the base of the centre each graduate of KSTU in addition to higher education will get a needed profession.

4.4. The University has a new site which meets up-to-date requirements of information technologies. It has operational information in Kazakh, Russian and English. According to the rating agency Vebometriks in July, 2011 KSTU took 4098 place among 17 000 universities of the world (only KSTU and KBTU entered the Top-5000 among all the universities of Kazakhstan).

4.5. The University has The Center “Trinity of Languages”after Sh. Kudaiberdiev with modern methods and the latest multimedia teaching aids for mastering the state, the Russian and the English languages.
In December, 2010 an agreement of opening the third in Kazakhstan Confucius Institute aiming at studying the Chinese language and culture was signed. Since September, 2011 classes of the Chinese language and culture for students and teaching staff have taken place at Confucius Institute.

4.6. The center of marketing and contractual relationships working at carrier guidance systematically.

Three consecutive years the University is one of the leaders in Central Kazakhstan according to the number of grants, respectively occupying the 6th and 7th place among the universities of Kazakhstan. The growth of 1st year students was: in 2008 – 2346, in 2009 – 3898, in 2010 – 4238 people. Due to the deterioration of the demographic situation in the region the number of 1st year students in 2011 amounted to 3964 people.

Nowadays KSTU is the largest higher educational institution in Karaganda.
4.7. The department of the Bologna process, carrying out a full implementation of the basic principles of the Bologna Declaration in the free choice of subjects and teachers by students, providing internal and external academic mobility (nowadays amounts to 236 students). Due to the international scholarship of the President of the RK “Bolashak” 139 people got their education at universities all over the world. Students and undergraduates are taught in the European universities by means of a credit transfer like ECTS. The academic mobility in the country is developed on the base of relations between departments : relevant agreements with universities of Kazakhstan in 11 specialities of baccalaureate, which provide the mobility of 139 students, have been signed.

According to the international academic mobility project Erasmus Mundus MANECA graduates Kadyrova Tatyana and Yun Andrew got grants for 6 and 10 months’ studying at Berlin Technical University, a graduate Tattimbekova Bakhytgul and a doctoral Telenkova Katerina got grants for 5 months’ studying at Technical Higher School in Belgium.

4.8. In the development of postgraduate education 12 JI and 24 model curricula have been developed, documents for getting a license in 12 specialties of doctoral PhD have been prepared.

4.9. There is a permanent exhibition of KSTU “Innovations in education and science” after A.S. Saginov, where the most promising innovative projects of scientists of the University are presented.

4.10. The activation of the international activities of KSTU. It signed more than 120 memoranda of cooperation with leading universities of the U.S., Canada, UK, Germany, Australia, China, UAE, Pakistan, Ukraine, Russia, etc.

The University participates in the international educational projects Tempus, Erasmus Mundus, SYNERGY, the University of the SCO.

On September 18, 2009 in Bologna (Italy) the University signed the Great Charter of Universities and entered the European educational space.

KSTU is included in the list of basic higher educational institutions of the University of SCO by the disciplines “Energy” and “Ecology”. Two graduates became leaders of “Association of student organizations of technical universities of the SCO countries.” The student Omarova B.D. won scholarship for studying at the University in Chuntsin (KPR) according to this program.

185 scientists from the U.S., Canada, Germany, Japan, France, Switzerland and other countries of the world gave some lectures, seminars and presentations of up-to-date researches at KSTU.

The best students, graduates and young scientists of the University were awarded with 12 individual scholarships by the Japanese company “Tokyo Boeki CIS» for high results in studying and research.

118 foreigners from 11 countries of the world study at the University.

In November, 2011 KSTU became a member of the Eurasian Association of Universities.

5. MODERNIZATION OF EDUCATION BY

INTERNATIONAL STANDARDS

 

5.1. The international accreditation of 5 specialties (5B070200 – Automation and Control, 5B070900 – Metallurgy, 5B071200 – Mechanical Engineering, 5B071300 – Transport, transport equipment and technology, 5B070700 – Mining) was organized by the International Agency RAEE on 24-25 May, 2010. “European quality label ” of European Union of Engineering Education (London) was awarded.
5.2. In November, 2009 the institutional accreditation in the National Accreditation Centre MES was carried out.

5.3. In 2010 according to the results of the national ranking 14 specialties of KSTU took the first places, among them 6 – first, 6 – second and 2 – third.
5.4. The Military Technical Institute was opened on the base of the best in the country military department.

5.5. 21 new specialties were opened: 10 – Baccalaureate, 7 – Master’s degree and 4 – Doctorate PhD.

5.6. Currently, KSTU provides training in 39 specialties for bachelors, 26 for masters, 4 for doctorate students and 6 in military registration specialties.

5.7. By the order of MES of Kazakhstan No 367 from July 31, 2009 KSTU was endorsed as a General Institution on 27 specialties of higher and postgraduate education in accordance with the new Classifier of specialties.

5.8. Use of cutting-edge training and laboratory facilities of «EPAM Systems» and «ERSAI» companies, licensed software, as well as unique equipment laboratories of engineering profile, innovative engineering developments of SRI KazMIRR, SRI “Kazakhstan Institute of Welding” in training specialists have become a basis for intensifying and improving the quality of the education process.

Modern educational and industrial hardware-software automation equipment of large foreign producers, such as «FESTO-DIDACTIC», «SIMENS» and «Mitsubishi» are actively applied in the education process.

5.9. There have been designed and implemented the AIS “KSTU”, including AWP, “Management”, “Head of Department”, “Teacher”, “Student”, AIS “Entrant”,  “Office Registrar”, etc.

5.10. Distance learning centers for LLP “Kazakhmys” Corporation staff have been organized in the cities of Balkhash and Zhezkazgan.

5.11. 132 leading experts of the Corporate university enterprises directly participate in the educational process.

5.12. International education programs are implemented with Freiberg Mining Academy, Moscow State Construction University, Zittau University (Germany) and other foreign universities.

5.13. Over 70% of the University undergraduates have participated in the Research Internships programs at leading universities of the world.

5.14. 26 KSTU teachers were awarded grants on the results of the competition “The best High School Teacher” across Kazakhstan.

5.15. In the University operates an effective system of monitoring the quality of teaching, providing supervisory visits of all types of lessons and public lectures by the vice-rectors, directors of the institutes and heads of the departments. Only in 2010, 537 sessions and 102 workshops were conducted by the University lecturers.

5.16. More than 80% of the faculty has improved their skills: at the Courses of teaching and lecturing skills, engineering education, computer literacy courses, language courses (Kazakh, English).

5.17. The teaching staff of the University has published 19 textbooks, recommended by MES of Kazakhstan, including – 9 in the state language.

5.18. The publication of the journal “Proceedings of the University” has been commenced in English. The magazine “Automatics and Informatics” has been included into the list of journals ranked by impact.

5.19. There has been created an academic – methodical and research production complex of technical and vocational education, the structure of which includes:

5.19.1. Remote Center of Vocational Guidance of Youth and Resource Center of the secondary school No 5 implement the early career orientation of students;

5.19.2. Vocational Lyceum and Technological College of the University train workers, technical and vocational teachers in 13 specialties;

The Center for training workers, the National Center “Welding” and Center “Engineering”, on the basis of which the population of the region will be able to get working professions, are the most demanded on a labor market;

5.19.3. Department of vocational education undertaking instruction of teachers of industrial training and teachers of special disciplines for vocational schools, colleges and universities;

5.19.4. Interregional Center for professional development of teachers in technical and vocational education;

5.19.5. Research Institute on problems of vocational technical education.

5.20. In the Interregional Refresher Center for teachers of Technical and Vocational education (TVE), 450 teachers from 6 regions of Kazakhstan have taken refresher courses.

The Center participates in the following international projects:

  • German Technical Cooperation (GTZ);

European Union, “Social partnership in the system of TVE Kazakhstan”;

  • European Union ТEMPUS;
  • German Society, promoting international development and advanced training (InWent gGmH);
  • Support Fund of Vocational Education (RKK, Norway);
  • International Society for Engineering Education (IGIP).

On the basis of the Research Institute of Vocational Technical Education there are conducted researches on the state budget program “Applied Research in Education” focusing on “Improving the quality of training and competitiveness of the staff of technical and service labor”.

The annual amount of funding for research and educational programs within the framework of the TVE University averages to 21 million tenge.

5.21. In 2011 KSTU was successfully state-accredited and showed good results for the ISC.

Chairman of the Committee for Control of Education and Science of MES of Kazakhstan S. Irsalievym highly appreciated the work, done by S. B. Balshekeev, Head of the Department of Social Sciences and Humanities, and the KSTU lecturers in conducting the UNT.

5.22. Together with the US-Belarusian company “EPAM Systems» there has been opened a specialized RD-laboratory for the target training of programmers and software development in the field of IT-technologies.

5.23. In recognition of outstanding contributions to the University’s excellence, A. M. Gazaliev, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of RK, Professors B. A. Akhmetzhanov, V. V. Egorov, I. V. Braido and J. S. Nuguzhinov were awarded medals, marking the 20th anniversary of Independence of Kazakhstan.

5.24. In September, 2011 by the decision of the tender committee PF “Fund of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan” the KSTU students T. Zhumabekov (Mining Institute) and A. A. Dosmaganbetov (Institute of Economics) were recognized the winners of the the scholarships in the republican competition.

5.25. Milana Abaeva and Gulnara Baydurina, KSTU graduates, became  the winners of the “Golden Hephaestus” for the best graduate thesis project at the II International Mining and Metallurgical Congress, held on July 4-6, 2011 in Astana.

5.26. KSTU students got 10 diplomas for creative projects in various categories at the II International Festival of architectural and design schools of Eurasia.

 

6. DEVELOPMENT OF INNOVATIVE RESEARCH IS:

 

6.1. Unprecedented scientific development of the academic staff. Since 2008, the university lecturers have submitted 30 doctoral and 82 master’s theses. In total within four years, 36 Doctors and 162 Candidates of Sciences have obtained academic degrees.

6.2. Development of eight academic schools in priority directions of the State program of forced industrial-innovative development of Kazakhstan for 2010-2014.

6.3. The development and commercialization of innovative technologies in the enterprises of mining and metallurgical fields: OC “Bogatyr Coal”, JSC “ArcelorMittal Temirtau”, JSC “Zhairemskiy Mine,” “Kazakhmys Corporation”, JSC “Shubarkol Coal”, JSC “SSGPO” and others. The work performed in this field amounts in total to more than 200 million tenge per year.

6.4. The development and commercialization of innovative projects in the construction and reconstruction of large industrial and civil facilities in Astana, Karaganda, Aktobe, Kokshetau, Atyrau. The total sum of contracts over the last three years has amounted to 424.3 million tenge.

6.5. Recognition of innovation activity of KSTU research schools at international, national and regional levels: 53 awards for the scientific achievements in the competitions of various levels in 9 nominations.

In the competition of the CIS countries “Commonwealth debutants”, the research project of Professor O. Bakbardina received the 1st prize.

First President’s Award for the 1st place was given to Associate Professor D. P. Khrustaliov.

The winner of Award of Akim of Karaganda region has become Assistant Professor B. K. Kurmasheva.

The lecturer K. M. Karimova took the second place in the open tender for selecting youth innovation projects in the humanities, natural sciences and engineering on the territories of states – participants of CIS.

In the city competition “Zamandas”, Professor I. V. Breido was honoured with an award in recognition of his contribution to the cause of the city development in the nomination “Pride of science”.

Senior lecturer N. B. Bakhtybayev, was recognized the winner of the contest “Sharyktau” among young scientists for initiative innovative research and design project.

Award of Akim of Karaganda region for young talented scientists in the nomination «Engineering and Technology» was received by Assistant professor A. S. Nurmaganbetov

6.6. On the results of scientific research there were held 18 international and republican scientific and practical conferences.

The results of scientific research of students have been published in 2076 conference proceedings of various levels.

6.7. Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of RK A. M. Gazaliev, professors N. A. Drizhd, Y. M.  Smirnov and B. M. Kenzhin were awarded A. A. Skochinskiy Prize for a series of papers on mining study by the Academy of Mining Sciences of Russia.

6.8. In December, Senior lecturer in computer-aided manufacturing K. K. Smagulova, lecturer in mechanical engineering V. V. Yurchenko and Director of the Institute of Mechanical Engineering O. A. Sharaya successfully defended their dissertations for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) at KazNTU after K. I. Satpayev.

6.9. In 2011 Academic Pro-rector A. Z. Isagulov was recognized a winner of the annual city contest “Zamandas” in the nomination “Pride of science”.

6.10. In honor of the 20th anniversary of Independence of Kazakhstan a number of international and republican actions were organized and carried out: conferences «Saginovsky readings-3», «120 years of Alimkhan Ermekov», «Mining and metallurgical complex of Kazakhstan: Problems and Prospects», symposium of Kazakhstan surveyors and welders, a workshop of designers and experts on Evrocode with the participation of the international experts and representatives of the companies  ”Leica Geosystems”, “Total”. On the symposium of surveyors the Union of Kazakhstan surveyors has been created.

7. DEVELOPMENT OF EDUCATIONAL COMPONENTS IS:

 

7.1. Successful implementation of the University Model of patriotic education on the example of the First President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev.

To implement effectively the Model of patriotic education in the educational process, KSTU published a monograph “The formation of Kazakhstani patriotism: Theory and Practice”. The deputies of the Senate and the Majilis of the RK, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Philosophy G. Yesim, Doctor of Political Sciences, Professor K. Burkhanov, Candidate of Pedagogical sciences S. Ferho – are the authors of the loop video lectures on patriotic education.

The set of information and methodical materials, including 19 books and 17 CDs in Kazakh and Russian languages is developed, urged to help the curators and to ensure consistency of the educational process.

Workshops according to the program of patriotic and ideological and political education of students were carried out.

The experience in implementing patriotic education in KSTU was twice discussed in the Majilis and approved by the members of Parliament.

7.2. On October 31, 2010 on the basis of KSTU there was held the Republican seminar-conference “Patriotic education of youth: Status and Prospects.”

It was attended by Vice-Minister of Education and Science, M.N. Sarybekov, Head of the Department of Internal Policy of the Presidential Administration A. M. Abay, the deputies of the Majilis of the Parliament, K. N.  Burkhanov and S. I. Ferho, Rectors and Pro-rectors on educational work of 44 universities, directors of 75 schools and colleges, as well as leaders of youth organizations.

On the results of the workshop-conference the Ministry of Education and Science of RK recommended the Model of patriotic education, designed in KSTU, for implementation in educational institutions of the country.

The set of information and methodical materials for introduction of the Model of patriotic education was gratuitously transferred to all participants of the seminar-conference.

7.3. Scientific research institute of problems of patriotic education, organized for enhancing a scientific component of educational work at the University.

7.4. Establishment of the Association of student and youth organizations under the auspices of the Students’ Union – “Jas Horde”, KSTU Professional Students Union.

It has become another important result of the implementation of the Model of patriotic education in our university.

The members of the trade union “Jas Horde” held forums, scientific conferences, roundtables and debate tournaments, training seminars, festivals for students, contests of research papers in schools, exhibitions, concerts, sports and recreation activities, meetings with artists and law enforcement officials on actual problems of the youth movement,.

7.5. Public Disciplinary Commission, effectively working in the field of crime prevention among students and the academic staff.

7.6. The activity of the charitable organization “Akniet”, that performed a large number of actions for orphans, disabled children: visits to orphanages with various programs, taking children to the zoo, to KSTU, where they were offered sport games, friendly football matches, relay races, contests, exhibitions of paintings and handicrafts.

7.7. The active participation of students in the activities of KSTU SCT and “Green People”. More than three thousand students worked in the detachments of SCT and “Green People”.

In 2011 SCT “Polytech” took part in the construction of Olympic facilities in Sochi (Russia). As a result of the shock detachment of our men, “Polytech” was awarded honorary diplomas of the Central Staff of the Russian construction troops and JSC “Russian Railways”.

7.8. The development of amateur art activities of students and faculty.

The student studio theater “Zhana buyn” in the state language, the studio theater “Orpheus” in Russian, vocal and dance clubs, a dombra ensemble, a theater of fashion, a brass band, a teachers choir.

7.9. 31 Rector’s Scholarships for educational excellence and community service.

7.10. The International Board of University Trustees, consisting of prominent public figures, business leaders and heads of organizations, provides effective interaction of the University with the public.

7.11. Veterans Council, carrying out public work on military-patriotic education of students, supporting labor and war veterans.

7.12. Council of Elders, performing public service on mentoring young teachers and supervisors, and control of the educational process quality.

7.13. KSTU Alumni and Faculty Association, which maintains constant connection of the graduates with their educational institution and involves them to the social and economic issues in various areas of the University’s activity.

7.14. Respect for traditions and perpetuating of memory of the University founders.

There have been opened 14 memorial plaques and a portrait gallery (15 portraits), dedicated to the founders of the University.

There have been published 12 books of a series of «Life of remarkable teachers».

7.15 On September 10, 2011 KSTU took part in the celebrations, devoted to the 100th anniversary of the birth of the great bard Kasym Amanzholov.

7.16. On December 10, KSTU held the Republican scientific-practical conference “Problems and methods of formation of Kazakhstani patriotism among today’s youth.”

7.17. The youth of KSTU – the trade union of students “Jas Horde” and the charitable association “Akniyet” together with the city public association “Umit” conducted an action «Will bring together children in school!» in the city of Karaganda.

7.18. In November, 2011 in Almaty at the national competition of students’ business projects, the project “EkoART”, developed by Anel Elchibekova and Marat Gulzat under the direction of the business advisor I. I. Zavarzina, took the third place and won a grant of 40,000 tenge.

Student of the Institute of Architecture and Design, N. Zhetpisbayev became the winner of the National Debate Tournament for the “Nur Otan” Cup in Astana.

The team of Karaganda, consisting of students, graduates and members of “Jas Horde” G. Smailov, A. Ibitanov and T. Imashkhan received the diploma «The most talented team» at the First  International Forum «Youth for trade unions».

Leader of ASA A. Maschenov, vice-leader J. Tatagulov and Director of the DMP G. B. Dalabaeva have been honored for their contributions in the implementation of youth policy in Karaganda region.

In the “Golden Book of Honor of Karaganda” were included the lecturer in the Kazakh language and culture D. T. Shadykenova, the lecturer in physical training M. N. Komissarenko, the leader of the KF “Students’ Alliance of Kazakhstan” and the student of the Institute of Architecture and Construction A. Maschenov.

8. SOCIAL SECURITY OF WORKERS AND PROVISION

OF PUBLIC GOODS ARE:

8.1. The rating system of assessing the effectiveness of faculty labor, on which 40% of teachers receive an extra charge to their salary. The living standards of the academic staff have been improved. Thus, in 2008 the wages on contract basis were received by 80 people, in 2011 by 426 people, including 62 students. Wages and salaries in 2008 on contract basis amounted to 63.4 million tenge, in 2011 to 294.8 million tenge. The amount of additional payments for four years has amounted to 688.2 million tenge.

8.2. The participation of academics and students in the research economic contracts, paid on outsourcing terms. The number of participants involved in outsourcing contracts in 2010 compared to 2008 increased by 40%, while the proportion of students, undergraduates and doctoral students increased by 20%.

8.3. The annual competitions for the titles of “Teacher of the Year”, “The best Curator”, “The best structural unit”, “The Best Department”, “The Best Institute”, “Student of the Year”, “The Best Student’s Group”, ” The Best room in the hostel” with shared fund of 1 million tenge.

8.4. The anticrisis committee, within the framework of which the University has provided support for socially vulnerable categories of students to fulfill contractual obligations on payment for their tuition.

 

9. STRENGTHENING OF TRAINING FACILITIES IS:

 

9.1. The acquisition of modern educational and scientific equipment for the sum of 410 million tenge.

9.2. The opening of the modern laboratory R & D (Research and development) in the field of ICT – this is the first and the only project of this level in Kazakhstan.

For the efficient operation of the laboratory, the research computer classroom has been repaired and equipped with modern high-technology and licensed software by the “National ICT Holding “Zerde”  and the company EPAM Systems.

9.3. Donation of high-efficient equipment of the world manufacturers in the amount of 10 million tenge to Kazakhstan Institute of Welding at KSTU by the transnational company «ERSAI».

9.4. Donation of the unique training equipment in the amount of 40 thousand Euros by the concern «FESTO» University.

9.5. Repair of all academic buildings, dormitories, the sports complex, the building of the Youth Center, houses and the students’ canteen of the sports camp “Polytechnic” in Karkaralinsk.

9.6. Reconstruction and equipment of educational building No5, including facilities for Research Institute of new materials.

9.7. Reconstruction of engineering networks: about 2.5 km of the pipeline was repaired and replaced.

9.8. Repair of premises for the Laboratory of engineering profile.

9.9. Extending of the cloak room of the educational building  No 2 from 1346 to 2016 seats, there were newly constructed cloak rooms in buildings No 2 and No 4 for 625 and 600 seats respectively.

9.10. Construction of a dynamic lighting fountain with a diameter of 14meters.

The fountain has decorated the architectural ensemble of the University and the city, and has become a popular recreation area for residents.

9.11. The underground gallery, connecting the main building of the university with building No1 has been repaired.

9.12. In general, complete repair of educational buildings, students’ dormitories, the Military Department and the sport complex “Polytechnic” have been carried out.

9.13. The premises of the Research Institute of Welding were renovated and equipped, covering the area of 600m2.

9.14. Design and estimate documentation on the construction of a new students’ hostel on 882 places has been developed and presented in MES for inclusion to the program “Students’ housing”.

CONCLUSION

 

Four years of hard and fruitful work passed, and we can summarize our activities. The teaching staff of KSTU works constantly at improvement of the educational process, implements an innovative approach to teaching, aims at international cooperation and students try to achieve their educational goals. It is quite easy just to have a look at our University and the dramatic changes that have occurred over 4 years will be noticed: the appearance of the University, the recognition of the world’s leading educational structures, membership and active participation in international educational and scientific programs, only positive reviews in the press and a growing number of young people who want to enter KSTU. All of these are a real evidence of purposeful policy of the heads of the University aiming at the continuous development and improvement in all aspects of University life.
This year is the year of innovations. And the best gift to our country will be our inspired work in realizing large projects contained in January address of Nursultan Nazarbayev to the people of Kazakhstan.
