Round table discussion “International experience in combating corruption, the impact of corrupt practices in society” 

The event was held in the online platform Microsoft Teams, where more than 80 students as well as the teaching staff of the Foreign Languages Department took part.

At the beginning, the aims and order of the event and the topics of the sections were announced and the relevance of the anti-corruption work was explained.

The 1st year students prepared presentations on three sections of the round table:

  1. The Impact of Corruption in Society;
  2. Foreign experience in fighting corruption;
  3. Fighting corruption is the responsibility of every citizen;

The participants prepared presentations in advance on their sections based on the following criteria: originality of the material used; mastery of content; speaking quality; cognitive and up-to-date information.

Participants in the first section “Impact of Corrupt Practices in Society” of the round table, students of groups LOG-21-1, SIB-21-3, BZhD-21-1 spoke about how corruption has a negative impact on the system of education, medicine, economy of the country, on society and quality of life in general. Comparative statistical data was clearly demonstrated.

In the section “Foreign experience in fighting corruption” the audience had a chance to learn about the anti-corruption system of such countries as: the USA, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Sweden and Singapore. The participant-students of the groups CAF-21-2, VT-21-2, PSK-21-2, MD-19-1 talked about the laws ‘On Counteracting Corruption’ and the penalties for the corruption offences in the aforementioned countries. The audience learned about the methods of encouragement used to counteract corruption and about the work of Transparency International, a non-governmental international organization fighting corruption and researching the level of corruption around the world.

In the third section of the round table, entitled “Fighting corruption is the responsibility of every citizen”, participants  talked about the main causes of corruption, the anti-corruption measures taken in Kazakhstan, the law ‘On Counteracting Corruption’ and the penalties for violators of the law.

At the end of the round table, all students were advised that they can contact the Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan on Counteracting Corruption if they encounter corruption offences.
