On May 16, Sergei Khristolyubov, QS Director for Central Asia and Eastern Europe, visited Saginov Technical University.
Timur Kanapyanov, Member of the Board, Vice-Rector for Strategic Development and Digitalization who met the guest thanked him on behalf of Chairman of the Board, Rector Saule Sagintayeva for the visit that would allow getting answers to pressing questions related to the international QS ranking. Noting that our University has been participating in it since 2015, he has emphasized that the results of the international ranking can be attributed to one of the main strategic indicators that make it possible to determine one’s strengths and weaknesses, and to take appropriate measures to improve one’s position in this ranking.
Abai Kalykov, Member of the Board, Vice-Rector for Social and Educational Work, informed the guest of the work carried out at Abylkas Saginov KTU in this field and the intended goals.
In turn, Sergei Khristolyubov, who has already found himself within the walls of our University for the fourth time, thanked us for the consistently warm welcome and spoke in detail about the latest changes in the methodology of conducting the international ranking, the qualitative and quantitative indicators that influence the improvement or deterioration of the results. It is these changes that are the reason for the somewhat strange, from an outside perspective, surrender of their positions by many universities (including our University) that participate in the international QS ranking. This is despite the fact that in many indicators there were achieved better results in comparison with the previous ones.
But in general, Abylkas Saginov KTU shows good dynamics in a number of indicators.
The situation is approximately the same for our University in comparison with universities in Central Asia.
However, at the meeting, special attention has been paid not to success but to reserves for improving the achieved results. It has been emphasized that they exist. This has been clearly demonstrated by the diagrams and graphs that Sergei Khristolyubov used to accompany his speech. At the same time, he has explained how and why that happens that the University still needs to work on as it has set ambitious goals: to rise to 600-650+ place in the international QS ranking.
The deans and heads of departments of the University who took part in the meeting admitted that thanks to the meeting they received answers to many of their questions. They expressed sincere gratitude to the guest for a meaningful and useful conversation.
