At Abylkas Saginov Karaganda Technical University, in the Department of Development of Mineral Deposits, presentations were held by PhD students from group GDD-24-1z: Abylai Aliev (Kazakhmys Corporation LLP) and Meirzhan Tagatov (Kazakhmys Coal LLP, Molodezhny open-pit mine). This event was organized as part of the media plan to cover the Address of the Head of State to the people of Kazakhstan and was dedicated to the topical theme – “The Role of Artificial Intelligence in the Digitalization of the Mining Industry.”
During the presentations, the significance of the mining industry and the challenges of digitalization were discussed; key AI technologies (machine learning, computer vision, NLP); AI application areas: exploration, mining automation, safety improvement, environmental monitoring, and analytics; real-world cases of AI implementation in global companies (Rio Tinto, BHP, Komatsu, GoldSpot Discoveries).
The PhD students noted that digitalization and artificial intelligence can increase productivity by up to 30% and reduce costs by up to 20%; decrease emergency downtime; improve worker safety; enhance environmental control; and reduce the negative impact on the environment.
The conclusion following these presentations is quite clear: artificial intelligence is becoming a strategic factor for the sustainable development and competitiveness of Kazakhstan mining industry.
