Professor from Turkey Visits Saginov Technical University


Professor Melih Geniş from Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University (Turkey) visited Saginov Technical University.

Professor Geniş came to the university as part of the program initiated by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan aimed at inviting foreign scholars to universities across the country.

Professor Melih Geniş is actively engaged in international scientific and educational activities and is a renowned expert in geotechnical engineering, soil mechanics, and mining engineering. He currently serves as Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University.

He is a full member of the International Association for Computer Methods and Advances in Geomechanics (IACMAG), the Mechanics of Ancient Rock Structures (MARS) association, and the International Society for Rock Mechanics (ISRM). Professor Geniş has been awarded scholarships from the Matsumae International Foundation (MIF, Japan) and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). His h-index is 15.

During the official meeting with Professor Melih Geniş, key areas for future cooperation were discussed. The parties explored opportunities to deepen scientific collaboration, implement joint research projects in engineering, innovative technologies, and sustainable development, as well as the professor’s potential involvement in the university’s educational process.

Special attention was given to:

* Implementing joint research projects;

*Academic exchanges for students, master’s and PhD students, and faculty;

*Involvement of international experts in the university’s academic and scientific events;

*Enhancing publication activity in international journals.

A separate topic of discussion was the preparation of a special issue of the university’s scientific journal, dedicated to the 110th anniversary of the birth of academician Abylkas Saginov, a prominent scientist and statesman after whom the university is named.

The possibility of inviting Professor Melih Geniş as an international editor of the special issue was considered – a move that would give the publication high international recognition and contribute to raising the scientific reputation of the university globally.

Professor Geniş expressed gratitude for the invitation and the opportunity to visit one of Kazakhstan’s leading technical universities. He also emphasized his interest in further strengthening cooperation. He noted that he is pleased to deliver lectures, masterclasses, and seminars on topics such as “Applied Geomechanics” and “Numerical Modeling of Geomechanical Processes” for master’s students, PhD candidates, and faculty of the Department of Mineral Deposit Development.
