On 12–13 June 2025, an international seminar titled “Development of Inclusive Higher Education” was held at Astana IT University within the framework of the Technical Assistance Mission (TAM). The event was organized with the support of:
- Higher Education Reform Experts of Kazakhstan (HERE)
- National Erasmus+ Office in Kazakhstan
- Committee for Higher and Postgraduate Education of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan
Among the international experts from the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) were:
- Ninoslav Šćukanec Schmidt, Higher Education Policy Expert, Institute for the Development of Education (Croatia);
- Ana Skledar Matijević, Higher Education Policy Expert, Institute for the Development of Education (Croatia).
Saginov Technical University was represented at the event by Timur Kanapyanov, Board Member – Vice-Rector for Strategic Development and Digitalization, who actively participated in key sessions dedicated to developing institutional approaches for supporting an inclusive environment.
In line with the main objectives of the seminar, participants:
🔹 Raised awareness about the importance of equity and inclusion in higher education and discussed the existing barriers both in Kazakhstan and in the countries of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA).
🔹 Explored best European practices, regulatory frameworks, and institutional models aimed at eliminating inequalities, supporting students with special educational needs, developing Universal Design for Learning, and enhancing the well-being of both students and staff.
At the conclusion of the seminar, participants laid the groundwork for the development of a roadmap to address the key priorities for equity and inclusion in Kazakhstan’s higher education, based on the principles of the EHEA and the experience of European universities.
