Delegation from the University of Exeter Visits SaginovTechnical University


On May 14, 2025, Abylkas Saginov Karaganda TechnicalUniversity  welcomed a delegation from one of the leadinguniversities in the United Kingdom — the University of Exeter, a member of the prestigious Russell Group of research-intensiveuniversities.

The British delegation included:

  • Professor Stuart Bearhop, Deputy Vice-Chancellor forGlobal Engagement;
  • Rachel Jones, Head of Global Partnerships, Faculty ofEnvironment, Science and Economy.

The visit program began with a meeting with the Deputy Akimof the Karaganda Region, A. Aldenei, during which priorityareas for regional development in science and education werediscussed, as well as opportunities for involving internationalpartners in industrial and educational projects within the region.

An official meeting of the delegation with the universityleadership then took place at KTU, with the participation of:

  • B. Nussupbekov – Member of the Board, Vice-Rector forAcademic Affairs;
  • T. Kanapyanov – Member of the Board, Vice-Rector forStrategic Development and Digitalization;
  • A. Kanatova – Director of the Department of InternationalCooperation;
  • Deans of faculties and heads of departments.

During the meeting, the parties discussed prospects foracademic and scientific cooperation supported by the Ministryof Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, including:

  • Expansion of academic mobility programs for students andfaculty;
  • Implementation of joint educational and research initiatives;
  • Strengthening of sustainable institutional ties.

Special attention was given to opportunities for developinginternational dual degree programs, internships, and opening a branch campus.

Following the official program, the delegation toured theSaginov Technical University infrastructure, visiting:

  • The Mining and Mechanical Engineering Faculties;
  • The Faculty of Power Engineering, Automation, andTelecommunication;
  • The Methane Energy Institute;
  • The Welding Institute;
  • And the university campus.

The next item on the agenda was a visit to QARMET JSC, oneof the university’s key industrial partners. The guests wereintroduced to the company’s production facilities and theprospects for collaboration in engineering education and appliedscientific research.

The University of Exeter holds high positions in internationalrankings:

  • 145th in QS World University Rankings 2025;
  • 153rd in Times Higher Education World UniversityRankings 2024.

This visit marked an important milestone in expandinginternational cooperation for Abylkas Saginov KaragandaTechnical University and opened new horizons for integrationinto the global academic community.
