«School of the student bodies»


On February 9, 2018 in the framework of the comprehensive training project “School of the student bodies”, a meeting with PhD in Engineering, Professor, head of the Department “Geology and exploration of mineral deposits”, Chairman of the Expert Council of KSTU Portnov Vasily Sergeyevich was held.
Vasily Sergeyevich is a prominent scientist, academician of the International Informatization Academy, honorary Professor of “Oil-field Geology, Mining and Oil and Gas” of People’s Friendship University, “Best teacher of University” in 2009, fellow of the scientific scholarship of Kazakhstan in 2016, a member of the editorial boards of journals “University works” (Donetsk) and “Bulletin” of T.Shevchenko Kiev National University., academician of the Mining Academy (Russia), corresponding member of the RAE (Russia), academician of the National Mining Academy of Kazakhstan. He is a teacher who has made a huge contribution to the development of higher education in Kazakhstan as the head of the educational and methodical administration, Dean of the faculty, head of the Department, Vice-rector for Academic Affairs of our University. He has published more than 700 scientific and scientific-methodical works in the leading journals of Kazakhstan, Russia, Ukraine, USA, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Armenia, Benin. According to the results of the research he published 33 monographs (including in Germany and Russia); 3 textbooks, 21 teaching aids, 10 inventions and certificates of intellectual property.
Vasily Sergeyevich is an excellent athlete. He was a member of the Regional Karate Federation. Then he began to get interested in tourism, first walking, then water (rafting) on the mountain rivers Tuva, Khakassia, Buryatia, Yakutia, the southern Urals, Dzhungar and Ili Alatau (there are 25 of them in this list). Every threshold on the river is the boundary between crazy joy and sadness. Then trekking and routes in the Sayan mountains, the Altai, Tibet, Nepal, and India. It is the place of nature’s grandeur: the main Himalayan range, the Tibetan plateau, Everest, Kailash, Annapurna, Beluga, where Vasily Sergeyevich tracked the path up to the permitted peaks (the base camp of the mountain peaks).
The meeting took place in the form of a dialogue platform, during which Vasily Sergeyevich answered questions of students – about expeditions, features of life of the people of different countries, the opportunity to find time and combine scientific activities with active sports. He shared his life experience, spoke about overcoming various obstacles on the way to the heights, urged students to be purposeful, active.
Vasily Sergeyevich is not going to stop at what has been achieved in extreme tourism, in science. In his plans – successful defense of theses by his students, new top-rated articles, conquering new heights! His advice to young people: “Each person creates his own future with own hands!”.
