At present, university ratings are widely used as one of the tools for an independent evaluation of the effectiveness and quality of higher education.
The ratings satisfy the needs of educational services users in easily interpreted information about the university, stimulate competition between educational institutions, provide rational motivation for investment, help to make a choice between different universities and programs.
A multidimensional rating gives a detailed idea of potential partners for the purpose of future cooperation for foreign universities, as well as strategic assets of competitors. A better awareness of the comparative characteristics of universities will allow the university leadership to develop strategies and plans for the future, applicants and their parents, students and employers – to facilitate the informed choice of a particular institution.
Independent Kazakhstan Agency for Quality Assurance in Education (NKAO) presented the next ninth, annual rating of the best universities in the country. This rating takes into account the diversity of Kazakhstani universities. Educational institutions were ranked in the following areas: multidisciplinary, technical, humanitarian-economic, pedagogical, high schools of art and medical.
Three assessments were used for a comprehensive assessment of higher education institutions. The first was determined by the parameters of the educational and research
The second, reputational, reflects the opinion of representatives of academic and scientific circles, the third – the reputational assessment of employers.
This year, 61 universities took part in the national rating of Kazakhstani universities-2017, of which only 57 universities were selected to be included in the rating, which collected at least 30% of the maximum number of academic points.
In 2017 Karaganda State Technical University, according to the assessment of NKAO, took one of the leading positions, taking second place among technical and agrotechnical universities. This fact indicates that KSTU has strengthened its positions quite firmly, losing first place to the Kazakh-British Technical University. Also in the list of the best technical universities after KSTU were Kazakh National Technical University named after K.Satpayev, Kazakh National Agrarian University, East Kazakhstan State Technical University named after D.Serikbayev and others.
