Teacher! Before your name…

On November 15, 2017 a scientific seminar on “Laser and digital technologies in geodesy, mine surveying and rock mechanics” devoted 80-anniversary of professor’s birthday and to the memory of R.P. Okatov. The event was attended by staff of the Department MS and G and students majoring in “Mining”.

Moderator of the event: professor of the department MS and G – F.K. Nizametdinov.

The head of the MS and G Department E.N. Khmyrov and Professor F.K. Nizametdinov told about how much effort and energy professor R.P. Okatov gave to the training of highly qualified engineering personnel. Virtually all of the students and associates of Rafail Petrovich noted the significant contribution he has made to the strengthening and modernization of material and scientific base, not only Department, but throughout our University. The memories about the teacher and the mentor were shared by Vice-rector of KSTU S.G. Ozhigin, professor of MS and G Department V.N. Dolgonossov and senior lecturer of MS and G – G.N. Rakhimov.

— Rafail Petrovich was a wonderful man and a great teacher. All his students remember him with great respect and gratitude. Because teacher was not only interested in students’ academic achievements, but also in their mental state. Rafail Petrovich was unusually sensitive to the problems of their students and employees. The memory of this man will not stop with his departure from life, because he lives in the heart of each of his students, — Vice-rector on Science Affairs of KSTU Sergey Georgievich Ozhigin said.

All who knew Rafail Petrovich, noted that he has never limited himself solely to a part of the teaching or administrative activities and has dedicated his life to the urgent problems of the mining geometry and combating landslides. As a major scholar in the field of surveying, he conducted research of physical-mechanical properties, fracture and structure of the rocks. And currently, his formulas and calculations are used not only domestic but also foreign scientists in relevant research projects. At the moment there is the question of the application of research results in automated systems based on digital technology.

The result of his many years of scientific research was the publication of 3 monographs and more than 152 articles on geomechanics of surface mining.

The presentation of letters of gratitude from “Kazakhstan Surveyors Union” was held during the event. Also a student of GG and K-17 Denis Litvinov was presented to R.P. Okatov scholarship  for active participation in the holding of the science seminar.
