Chair «Mechanics» has been formed on September, 1st, 2006 on the basis of merge of theoretical mechanics and the applied mechanics chairs. Since 2008 the cycle has been attached to chair «Descriptive geometry and engineering graphics».
Candidates of technical science, associate professors, S.U.Umbetalin (1959 – 1976), S.B.Battakov (1976 – 1988) were at the head of «Strength of materials» chair in different years. Doctor of technical science, professor A.S.Bozhenov was at the head of «Mechanic» chair since 1988 till 1997. Doctor of technical science, professor Z.B.Bakirov is at the head of «Mechanics» chair since 2000 and till present.

The first chair head of theoretical mechanics was a candidate of physical and mathematical science, associate professor S.U. Kan (1962 – 1968, 1971 – 1975), was one of the first teacher of Karaganda polytechnical institute (since 1953), the graduate of the Leningrad state university (1938). Prof. A.S.Bozhenov was at the head of chair in 1968 – 1971. Doctor of technical science, professor, laureate of the state award of the Kazakh Soviet Socialist Republic D.N.Eshutkin was at the head of chair from 1976 to 2003. Candidate of technical science, associate professor A.K.Kozhahmetova; doctor of technical science, professor S.K.Tutanov; doctor of technical science, professor N.T.Zhadrasinov were the heads of the chair in period of 2003 – 2006.

23 candidate and 6 theses for a doctor’s degree (D.N.Eshutkin, P.P.Palev, A.S.Bozhenov, J.M.Smirnov, N.T.Zhadrasinov, Z.B.Bakirov) were defended during chair existence.
For the first time in Republic Kazakhstan the speciality 250240 – «Dynamics and durability of machines» on the basis of chair has been opened in 1998. From the moment of chair creation under the new name of “Mechanics” in its structure of 19 teachers, including 2 professors: doctor of technical science Zh.B. Bakirov, candidate of technical science S.K. Ahmediev; 8 candidates of technical science, associate professors: N.T. Zhilkibaev, V.P.Starostin, T.S. Danikina, G.M. Mukusheva, A.K. Kozhahmetova, O.Ju. Pravdin, T.S.Filippova, candidate of physical and mathematical science L.H.Imanbaeva; 3 senior teachers: U.L. Umbetalieva, G.Zh. Oryntaeva, candidate of technical science M.Zh.Bakirov; teachers: A.A. Orazbekova, A.A. Tanirbergenova, V.F. Mihajlov, A.A .Ganjukov, P.G. Bezkorovajnyj, N.B. Tusupbaev, 4 persons of educational and support staff: O.I. Tsaruk, R.A.Kabieva, A.A. Bejzhanov, L.N. Students of chair are taught on a number of general educational and base disciplines of cycle “Mechanics” are «Theoretical mechanics», «Strength of materials», «Theory of machines and mechanisms», «Applied mechanics», «Engineering mechanics-1,2,3», «Descriptive geometry and engineering graphics».
The basic scientific direction of chair is researches on the mechanics of a solid deformable body and dynamics of machines on which for last 4 years 6 candidate’s theses are defended. The chair expands the scientific communications and practice bases every year: NSTU (Novosibirsk), EKSU (Ust-Kamenogorsk), chair of mechanics of KSU named after E.A. Buketov, KNTU (Almaty), PSU (Pavlodar), LLP «NAN-LTD» (Karaganda), PLC Mittal Steel (Temirtau), Kargormash (Karaganda), factory of processing of nonferrous metals (Balkhash). Modern test equipment (MI-40U, SM-1) is installed in chair laboratories (auditorium I-100, I-132А), computer class is equipped at chair (auditorium I-102). Specialized class on carrying out of work with use of audio – video devices is equipped in auditorium I-115.
Also chair prepares competitors and post-graduate students on scientific specialities 01.02.04 – «Mechanics of a solid deformable body», 01.02.06 – «Dynamics, durability of machines, devices and equipment».
