Department of ”Economics of the enterprise”

In its current composition, the Department of “Economics and Enterprise Management” is the result of the merger of the departments of “Enterprise Economics”, “Enterprise Management” and “Engineering Entrepreneurship and Marketing”.

In the process of reorganization of the Faculty of Engineering Economics and Management in 2017, the Department of “Enterprise Economics” was renamed “Enterprise Economics and Management”. In 2021, the Department of Economics and Enterprise Management was merged with the Department of Engineering Entrepreneurship and Marketing, retaining its name.

The history of the creation of the Department of Economics and Enterprise Management is closely connected with the development of industry in Central Kazakhstan. In 1961, the Department of Economics, Organization and Production Management was founded, which began to train the first economists of a technical profile.

On the basis of the Resolution of the Council of Ministers of the USSR on economic reform and in accordance with the requirements for providing industry in Kazakhstan and the republics of Central Asia with engineers – economists in 1965, the Karaganda Polytechnic Institute for the first time recruited applicants for the specialty “Economics and Industrial Organization”. That is why the department “Economics, Organization and Management of Production”, organized in 1961, received a more specific name “Economics and Organization of the mining industry” in 1969 and trained specialists by qualification – “Mining engineer-economist”. Due to the need for qualified economists for construction and mechanical engineering, the Department of Economics and Organization of Construction was established in 1965, and in 1969 – the Department of Economics and Organization of Mechanical Engineering.

The Department of Economic Theory was established in 1962, when there was a need to separate the Department of Marxism-Leninism, which since the formation of the Karaganda Mining Institute (later KPTI), teachers of political economy have been working for a year. The department was headed by an experienced head, Candidate of Economic Sciences R.A.Rakhlis, who in a short period managed to create a young creative team of economists who came to Karaganda from Alma-Ata and Moscow: I.I. Shub, E.I. Kapustin, Sh.K. Kashikov and others.  Kashikov Sh.K. in 1965, upon the announcement of the competition, he was elected head of the department.
